What We Do

Active Link exists to show young people that through self-belief, empowered by co-creation and guidance they can achieve great things in life.

We want young people to be told “yes you can’’ to help set them on a path to reach their fullest potential

Co-creation

We use co-creation throughout all our projects to help us better understand the barriers and motivators to increase participation and gain greater outcomes for all.

The young people on our programmes design their own programmes giving them a unique co-learning experience, providing empowerment and ownership and most importantly inclusion, helping young people to know their voices are heard and they belong.

Mentoring

Our local mentors provide one-to-one solution focused trauma informed coaching sessions to explore goals, aspirations, behaviours and attitudes.

Our mentoring ensures that the young people we engage with know that they are not alone in dealing with their challenges and issues and makes them feel as though they matter.

Research proves that high-quality mentoring can be a valuable asset to young people and will result in positive effects in a variety of personal, academic and long-term situations.

Young people with a mentor are

Less likely than their peers to skip a day of school;

More likely to volunteer regularly

Interested in becoming a mentor

More likely to hold leadership positions

Physical Activity & Wellbeing

We offer a wide range of co-created physical activity interventions that aim to improve academic performance, build confidence and overall health.

At Active Link we believe that engagement in physical activity can positively impact on:

Mental wellbeing

Individual development

Social and community development

The Need

In many cases, when faced with complex issues and adversity, there will be a domino effect on the rest of a young person’s life, in particular their education, home life and community activity.

Every child, regardless of their background and current situation, deserves a high-quality education that allows them to thrive and paves the way to a successful future.

Evidence suggests that there are fundamental links between poverty, mental health, being in care and having low attainment in school and becoming a NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training). There are further correlations between being a NEET and displaying anti-social behaviours and/or becoming involved in crime.

Active Link recognises the need to change the approach in supporting our young people and schools in order to prevent failure.

We have worked with young people over the past few years facing a variety of challenges, from mental health, low self esteem, body confidence, bereavement and gender identity.

Our work spans across all areas supported by our programmes and trusted and caring mentors identify the ‘active link’ collaborating with other specialist, charities and organisations.

With the impact of Covid and the cost of living crisis our work to support young people and their families is needed now more than ever.

Help us positively change young people’s lives
